OpenAI recently unveiled a new model that is able to generate summaries of books, regardless of length. This fine-tuned version of GPT-3 was trained on a subset of fiction books from its training dataset, which all had an average word count over 100,000 words. For example, it can summarize Alice in Wonderland with ease. This isn’t the only AI tool being used for summarization purposes — startups like Primer use machine learning techniques to condense multiple documents into one summary that covers many languages. Google has also explored the potential of paragraph summarization and Microsoft is following suit. Additionally, Facebook is reportedly developing an AI tool designed to produce news article summaries so readers don’t have to read them in full.
